Product Description
In his distinguished career as Hollywood photographer, Bob Willoughby has taken some of the benchmark photos of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda but he's unequivocal about who was his favorite subject: Edda van Heemstra Helpburn-Ruston, also know as Audrey Hepburn. Willoughby was called in to shoot a new starlet one morning in '53. It was a humdrum commission for the regular studio portraitist now credited with having virtually invented the photojournalistic motion picture still, but when he met the Belgian beauty, Willoughby was enraptured. "She took my hand like...well a princess, and dazzled me with that smile that God designed to melt mortal men's hearts, " he recalls. As Hepburn's career soared upwards following her US debut in Roman Holiday, Willoughby became a trusted friend, framing her working and home life. His historic, perfectionist, tender photographs seek out the man facets to Hepburn's beauty and elegance as she progresses from her debut to the career high of My Fair Lady in '63. Willoughby's studies, showing her on set, preparing for a scene, interacting with actors and directors and returning to her private self, comprise one of photography's great platonic love affairs and an unrivalled record of one of last century's touchstone beauties.

When I saw the title of the book I wrongly assumed that this would be full of photos from her personal life. Although there are many wonderful photos they are mainly all from movie sets and in movie wardrobe, a bit disappointing since I have already seen the movies I didn't want to see her on movie sets wearing the same clothes she wore in the movies.

An excellent book which pays tribute to a beautiful attractive lady. What is especially sad is the fact that Mr.Willoughby had been with this beautiful actress from the start, and was able to follow her career and her personal life with never before seen pictures.I agree with Mr.Willoughby-I miss her too.

My favorite Audrey movie is "Paris When It Sizzles," so I was floored when I saw how many FANTASTIC pictures from the making of the film this book shows. Previously, I didn't think they existed. Bob Willoughby is a gifted photographer and I am delighted to have this book, not only as an Audrey fan, but as a movie and photography enthusiast as well. Wonderfully compiled and shot!

Robert Willoughby had a distinguished career as a Hollywood photographer --- among the stars the magazine photographer (who's now credited with virtually reinventing the photojournalistic movie still) shot were Garland, Taylor and Monroe. But his fave was Edda van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston. In this photo-packed valentine, he recalls shooting a new starlet one morning in 1953. When he met the gamine Belgian beauty, Willoughby was enraptured: "She took my hand like ... well, a princess, and dazzled me with that smile that God designed to melt mortal men's hearts." As Hepburn's career soared following her Hollywood starring debut in "Roman Holiday," Willoughby became a trusted friend; his historic, perfectionist, tender photographs seek out the many facets to Hepburn's beauty and elegance. This collection includes both iconic portraits, as well as stunning images that have never been published before. The perfect homage to a most fair lady.

While it is nice to see the completed projects with full plans, the most important thing we took away from this book is technique. We feel we can pretty much mosaic anything that comes across our path now! As a result, we looked at a particularly ugly cement slab that was under an outside faucet and saw an opportunity. We mosaiced it (that's mom and her 7 year old) and it is now a focal point instead of a eye sore.If you're just getting started this is a great way to go. It worked with us!

This book is an excellent sequel to Ms. Sheerin's first offering, Mosaics In an Afternoon. If you haven't had the opportunity to peruse either book, you are missing out on the chance of a lifetime to add pizazz to your home! Most of the projects offered in this book would make excellent gifts, art pieces for sale, or decorations to grace your own home. Not only will you find the complete instructions for each project, you'll find informative lessons on how to be a mosaic designer yourself! Highly recommended book!

Product Description
We see birds every day, yet we know surprisingly little about them. In this book, photographer extraordinaire Brutus Ostling presents images of particularly interesting, thought–provoking and amusing aspects of the life of birds. The text and captions provided by bird expert Magnus Ullman complement the stunning photographs. The feathered "cast of characters" profiled is international in scope––from Sweden and the Antarctic to the deep forests of Canada, the wetlands of the United States and Spain, the deserts of Mexico to the savannahs of Tanzania: Ostling capture the grace and beauty of nearly 250 different species. Full colour throughout, this portfolio of the best of our feathered friends makes for an amazing collection. Sure to be sought (and bought) by bird fanciers worldwide.

I bought this book for my wife as a birthday gift. We have three parrots and birds of all kinds make her world a great place; she simply adores birds.
At first glance we were excited by the imagery and beauty of the pictures... then we read some of the author's notes. I cannot recall the exact quote and the book is not with me as I write this, but for instance one shining example of how unbelievably ignorant Brutus Ostling is he talks about birds being "unfeeling" and "showing no emotions". He goes on about how they express no feelings of love or anything other than the instinct to breed, eat, sleep and die. I recall him saying 'unlike a dog, birds show no love.' What kind of *#($ is he smoking?
This made me angry and my wife almost hostile. Our cockatoo absolutely lights up the room when my wife returns home. Our quaker will bug us until we get frustrated then do something cute to disarm us and then laugh. Wife had a leg cramp that had her in tears and our quaker (who isn't a 'mean' bird but far from gentle) went to her and would peck her face as softly as possible like she was asking 'are you ok?'.
As a book of pictures, get this book. For education, run away. The thought of a child reading this as fact makes me worry about our world and how backwards and little-minded we can be as human beings.

I LOVE this book. The incredible images drew me to it, the details about birds lives is the icing on the cake. I limit myself to 20 pages at a sitting, so I can savor the experience of being taken all over the world and into the habitat that these beautiful, amazing, intelligent creatures live in. Ostling has an extraordinary eye, and a great gift. I have never seen such a compilation of wonderful shots of birds in motion or still. I thank him for this. You will too. Astounding!

This is surely the ultimate in bird watchers books. Sure you can get bird catalogues, but this book has better information on why birds do things than I've ever read. And the photographs! Amazing! The shots are pin-sharp, the poses incredible and the photohrapher says he doesn't photoshop them... what a master... I'm buying 5 as Chrstmas gifts. I KNOW they will be loved. I bought Audubon's Birds of America, wish I had bought more of this book instead.
