Product Description
This text on the development of sex roles in childhood focuses on the processes by which children learn to be boys and girls and the effects of differential socialization on their behavior. Unlike competing texts on sex roles, the book has a clear developmental emphasis. It also stresses the use of psychological theories and methods to separate popular notions regarding sex roles from current research findings. BOYS AND GIRLS is designed for use as a primary or supplementary text for a course on sex roles, a supplementary text in an introductory child development course, and as a resource for parents, teachers, and others who work with children.

Answers primitive questions about our gender

This book is truly amazing because it answers so many questions we have always been asking through life... questions like why men are more aggressive, why some people change sex, and why some girls behave like boys and vice-versa.

In a sense, this book is like a college reference book (after all, I picked it up at my college library) but it reads like a bestseller! I couldn't stop reading after starting on it. It has a great chronological order of how boys and girls develop into their roles, and it touches on the biological side as well.

One thing I greatly admire about this book is that you don't need to have a major in Biology to understand what it is about. There are many techinal aspects of course, but the author made it easy to understand. In addition, her views are often supported by evidence and she also counteract her views with other arguments. In the end, the product is a well-balanced book, with unbiased views and sometimes, even more unanswered questions that will always be in our minds....trying to understand why boys grow up to be boys and why girls grow up to be girls.

One word for you, Carole R. Beal - Excellent!

Product Description
In this world you’re surrounded by sexual images that open the door to temptation. They’re everywhere–on TV, billboards, magazines, music, the internet–and so easy to access that it sometimes feels impossible to escape their clutches. Yet God expects his children to be sexually pure. So how can you survive the relentless battle against temptation? Here’s powerful ammunition.

Steve Arterburn and Fred Stoeker, the authors of the hard-hitting best-seller Every Man’s Battle, now focus on the temptations young single Christian men like you face every day–and they offer workable, biblical strategies for achieving sexual purity.

The authors examine the standard of Ephesians 5:3–“there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality”–in a positive and sensitive light. And they explain how an authentic, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ is the key to victory over temptation. Every Young Man’s Battle will show you how to train your eyes and your mind, how to clean up your thought life, and how to develop a realistic battle plan for remaining pure in today’s sexually soaked culture. As a result, you’ll experience hope–real hope–for living a strong, pure life God’s way

Uncritical and unscientific

The authors rely on little more than personal anecdotal experience. Their personal stories take too much space and cut out room for practical advice. They rely little on what mainstream sexology has to say becuase of their unquestioned committment to the sinfulness of "even a hint" of lust after a woman--based largely on an uncritical, literal reading of Matthew 5:28. Their reasoning embodies a perfect example of slippery-slope reasoning that I will use in the future when I teach critical thinking classes: 'if it goes that far, it'll end up going quite a bit farther.' The fact that there is no index helps the case for saying that this book is more like a novel about the consequences of sexual repression on one's emotional well-being and self-control, and a documentary of the bad advice that comes from it, than a helpful guide for young men trying to understand how to handle their bodily needs.

I finally bought this book after reading it through twice after I borrowed if from a friend. This book really gets to the heart of the problem and offers techniques and solutions for beating this up hill battle. I can't wait to finish it so I can read it again. It's nice to know that there are other people with the same problem. I hope that you buy this book, even if your not a 'young man' anymore.

I read this book many years ago and I was amazed! It was very well written and the ideals and values that are discussed are real, not just for Mexican youths but for EVERY youth! It deals with the issue of premarital sex and it takes you on a journey where you learn about sexuality and love. The book was so inspirational to me that I have encouraged my whole family read it. I've lent my copy out more times than I can count, and i feel honored to share something so moving with others. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, you won't be disappointed. It is a joy to have such a masterpiece in my collection.

This was the first book I ever read written by C.C. Sanchez and it's the reason I fell in love with his writing and have pretty much all his books. For those giving it a bad review, I'm sorry to say but I agree with the others, this is a GREAT book. And it's not just talking about Mexican youth it's about all youth in general and the things we might face.

This is a silly book for air heads, I read it when I was about 18... and the story was so stupid I couldn't believe a Mexican writer could picture Youth in general to be so stupid... if I am not wrong the story is about a 24 y.o. "kid". I got to say though, that it could be a good attempt to guide your "children"... but you may also offend your "children" if you were to give them this book as a gift. Besides Sanchez is so self serving with this books, he thinks he can come and teach us morale... as Wilde said: "Morality, like art, means drawing a line someplace".

This book is probably not very popular with most young people, because it tells them the opposite of what they are keen to hear. However, it is also the way to make it to the other side in one piece. We need more books like this. The author is a very couragous man, something few people are these days! The story is simple, but makes more sense than most complicated books I've read. Bravo!

Product Description
A whip-cracking anthology of erotica-60 stories in all.

Thirty stories for the Master...
...told in the voices of dominant men exercising power over their willing women-- who worship the pleasures these men so forcefully provide.

And thirty stories for the Slave...
...in which the pleasure of submission is celebrated, revered, and fulfilled. This is the anthology that pushes erotica to the limits.

Hot! A Page-Turner! Covers all kinds of styles, flavors, desires and kinks of Dominance and submission. The only thing hotter is if you are living the life style! For those curious, not sure, sitting on the fence.....this will be the deal breaker. Cause you either want more of it, want to join some club or group...... or too faint-hearted, not your cup of tea - and now you are sure.

To be honest the stories within this book are very basic, they dont give much detail, nor is there anything other than a bit of spanking, and light bondage described.

Maybe i've become more hardcore but, in all honesty the stories to me were just very boring and vanilla. If your just buying it to get the free super saver shipping then it might be worth your time but there are plenty of other books that are in many ways worth your money more than this one....

Have read about half of each side so far, and only one story I really didn't like. (Didn't seem to fit into the genre.) The rest, however, have been either good or great. The book is divided into two sides, "Master" and "slave." Interesting format, but the stories are worth it no matter the setup. One or two I have seen in other collections, but they are worth a re-reading. Been keeping me up nights, too worked up to sleep... :-) Looking forward to the rest.

I read this book cover to cover, because I will be leading a discussion group at our church called "Understanding Homosexuality". We plan to cover the 6 viewpoints presented in this book. I am probably not going to have discussion participants each purchase their own copy of Holben's book, however, as this book is a little more academic and intellectually "dense" than the usual books our church uses for discussion groups. In other words, it is not a "quick read" by any means. Readers probably need a college-level reading ability in order to appreciate this book.

I highly recommend What Christians Think About Homosexuality to anyone who wants to thoroughly understand the various viewpoints held by various churches and parachurch groups today. I think that both conservative and liberal readers will find it of value.

I have read the first five reviews of Holben's book, all of them glowing. I agree completely with all of them. I add my own comments only because I am a professional theologian in a major Christian denomination, with both biblical and moral theological training and credentials. Holben's treatment of my denomination's position(s) is articulate, precise, and spot-on accurate, even to technical vocabulary and fairly abstruse theological concepts. I surmise his treatment of other perspectives is equally accurate and insightful. On this score alone, he is far and away superior to anything else I've read on the topic.

I have never seen a book of this kind. In six chapters it covers a continuum of viewpoints on homosexuality, from far right to far left--while endorsing none. It will be extremely valuable to anyone who wants to understand the theological perspectives of those who agree OR disagree with them on this issue. It can be useful in argument, and may even open doors to dialogue. The book is thorough, well-researched, and beautifully written. It's a real find for serious, committed Christians of all stripes who want to think about this issue.

Holben has made a unique contribution to understanding this issue -- one of the thorniest confronting the Christian church today. In a remarkably even-handed way (the author takes no position) he has drawn from the seminal thinkers representing six distinct perspectives (the fact alone that there are that many will surprise some), spanning the most conservative to the most liberal, and significant points in between. An interesting feature of the book is that positions "speak" to each other, countering and clarifying arguments. Although it is not a theology book per se, all of the key theological and Biblical issues are well covered. This would be an excellent book both for individuals wanting to be better informed, and for groups of people who want to begin the conversation about an issue that threatens to be one of the most (if not the most) divisive issues the Christian church must deal with.
