This is the book that started it all. I know it is cliché but, this book has changed my life and my thinking...
I was talking to my father on the phone one day and I was explaining to him how I have no problem exercising and eating right when Otty is gone but I can't seem to keep it up when he is home. My father then asked me if I wanted to know what that was called...he told me it was called co-dependence and that I should start learning about this by reading a book called Co-dependent No More. I pretty much ran out right away and purchased the book.
Now, I have never been a big advocate for self-improvement books, but I have to say that this book was very enlightening. Co-dependency has a different definition for everyone. This book made me delve into my own retched thoughts and confront them head on.
This book made me realize that I have a voice and an opinion and both matter just as much as the next person. I realized that I can make decisions and not have to worry if my opinion is what other people may think or want. My opinion is exactly that...my opinion. It is okay to have an opinion that is different than someone else's.
I also learned that I need to detach myself from the people in my life that cause me harm...emotionally, physically, doesn't matter...
Though I may not struggle with an abusive alcoholic, I still struggle with the internal doubts and feelings of self worthlessness. I have learned that I do not need to immerse myself so deeply in someone else's life that I lose myself. I can keep my individuality while sharing my life with another. If we have conflicting views...that's alright.
When I first read this book, I figure that I would not post my feelings about it because they were too personal. However, now having some distance from the book and being able to employ the lessons I have learned, I am able to share myself with others.
I am not perfect and it is absolutely acceptable for me to let other people know this. Maybe, by sharing these thoughts, someone else might be inspired to read this book and better themselves as well.

This book was a huuge eye opener for me. If you believe you might be codependent or want to find out more on the subject- this book is for you. It contains many examples of real people; as well as a list of habits and traits a codependent generally possesses. It also offers helpful tips to break the cycle and possibly change your life. I recommend this for anyone who is, thinks they might be, or have a codependent in their life.

Product Description
The idea of "community" is increasingly vital to our individual and social well-being. Yet at the same time, our ordinary communal relations are being eroded by increased social and geographical mobility, lost traditions, and the growing pluralism of society. Examining this renewed desire for community, Coming Together/Coming Apart locates the current problems of society in the conditions of modern capitalism. From a background of advocacy and crossdisciplinary work, Bounds analyzes a broad range of theorists from Daniel Bell and Stanley Hauerwas to Iris Young, Sharon Welch and Cornel West. Through comparison of their arguments about community, she illustrates critical assumptions about the roles of morality and religion including the impact of modernity, the value of difference, the diversity of traditions, and the nature of moral connection.

This was a very interesting book, I enjoyed it alot, I would recommend it to anyone thinking about going into clinical psychology or even if you are thinking about being a psychiatrist. It has some good information and some great stories. It also had some pretty vivid stories in there but it had an excellent ending. The book is about a chief psychologist from the infamous Bellvue Hospital, in New York, that has to show 8 interns what it is like behind the scenes of being a psychiatrist. He did a great job keeping up with all of them, he never left you wondering what happened with that particular case and I was happy with the ending, the author didn't just quit he went on to tell what happened to everyone. He let you know where the interns all ended up, whether they continued with the psychiatrict career or if they realized it was not for them. Great Book!

Product Description
Actress and photographer Kris Carr thought she had a hangover, but a Jivamukti yoga class didn’t provide its usual kick-ass cure. A visit to her doctor confirmed her “liver looked like Swiss cheese,” covered with cancerous tumors. She entered trench warfare (wearing cowboy boots into the MRI machine, no less), vowing, “Cancer needed a makeover and I was just the gal to do it!” She began writing and filming her journey, documenting her interactions with friends, doctors, alternative “quacks,” blind dates, and other women with cancer—sadly a growing group. These include hip, young women such as illustrator-author Marisa Acocella Marchetto (Cancer Vixen), Glamour writer-editor Erin Zammett (My So-Called Normal Life), MTV personality Diem Brown (Real World/Road Rules Challenge), model Sharon Blynn (founder, Bald Is Beautiful), and music manager Jackie Farry, among others. The Learning Channel broadcast the premiere of Carr’s unforgettable documentary, Crazy Sexy Cancer on August 29, 2007. CRAZY SEXY CANCER TIPS gathers the lessons learned and advice offered from Carr’s own journey, as well as the experiences of her cancer posse. Full-color photos accompany personal stories and candid revelations in this scrapbook of advice, warnings, and resources for the cancer patient. Chapters cover your changing social life, dating, sex, and appearance; essential health tips on how to boost your immune system; recipes; medical and holistic resources; and information on young survivor support groups. The resulting book is a warm, yet informative tool for any woman newly diagnosed with the disease and for those who love them.

I am a Crazy Sexy Survivor!
Rating (5)

I am an 18 year leukemia survivor. I was diagnosed at age 5 and I'm 24 now. I am in my last year of college and I really didn't start feeling pretty, or sexy or anything because I've never had a boyfriend so I thought I wasn't beautiful enough for anyone. Then I saw Kris's documentary on TLC and that changed tha way I felt about myself. I still don't have a boyfriend yet but I know there is one guy out there who will find me someday and he will see me as beautiful and sexy.

This book is not just for people with cancer. After seeing the author's documentary, and totally falling in love with her, I pre-ordered this book. You can't -not- fall in love with Kris Carr. She's open and fun and intelligent and has wonderful infectious energy. The guy shooting the film fell in love with her too and now they're married.
What drew me in is my belief in Prevention. I have been close to people suffering with cancer and at an early age became interested in a healthy lifestyle with emphasis on whole foods. Her focus on greens is right in line with my thinking and I find this book to be a great support for my own vegan lifestyle which at times can be just a little bit difficult (culturally, not personally). Her blog is great support as well and is also infused with her brilliant spirit.
I can't say enough good things about her or the book, just get it. Give it to anyone you know who might be struggling with any sort of degenerative disease and use it for support in prevention. The China Study by Campbell is mentioned in her book repeatedly and is my favorite work on the subject of healthcare and food. I highly recommend reading it in conjunction with CSC.

The smartest, the bravest, crazy sexy book I've ever read about cancer!
Kris Carr's book should be read by everyone - it does not matter if you are lucky one and do not have a cancer scare, read it. She did all work for us-very deep and serious researches especially how to have healthy living habits.
Life is precious! And you can feel this message through each page of this fantastic book.

After a personal cancer diagnosis, this was one of the first books I read pertaining to recovery. I read many more later, but none were quite as uplifting and encouraging as this one.
Besides detailing her own struggle with cancer, Kris Carr offers page after page of tips that are do-able, and will make you feel as if you really can beat the disease.
All the other five star reviews are here for a reason. This book is informative, helpful, optimistic, and bravely written.
Bravo, Kris Carr. I'll be reading your next book for sure. (Just ordered it, in fact :)

I watched an interview with Ms. Carr on Montel Williams and was impressed with her attitude toward cancer. I am walking through stage 4 lung cancer and firmly believe that a positive attitude makes a major difference in the outcome. Couldn't wait for the book to arrive and started reading it the minute it hit my mail box. By the time I hit page 40, I had to throw the book away . . . any encouragement or advice offered by the author was totally lost in the deluge of F-bombs and curse words. What could have been an awesome gift to anyone battling cancer lost all credibility. Buyer beware!

Product Description
The messages that we give to ourselves are the most important messages we hear. The internal briefings and conversations we hold determine our attitudes, our behavior and the course of our lives. If, as children, we were criticized and shamed, our internal dialogue will be self-deprecating. If we are used to large doses of self-imposed sarcasm and negative reviews of our daily performance, we gradually mutilate our self-esteem, our creativity and our spirit. As adult children of alcoholics, we can continue to remain in the past and believe the negatives that we were taught; or we can change our beliefs with affirmative thoughts that can set us free into better and more expansive experiences. What we choose to believe will ultimately rule our world. Affirmations are a way to wake us up--to make us fully conscious and aware of the daily choices we make. And, as we learn to direct our thoughts, our feelings and behavior will naturally follow.

LIFE SAVER
Rating (5)
Date: 2008-09-01
SINCE I GREW UP IN A HOME WHERE BOTH PARENTS WERE ALCOHOLICS, I KNOW ABOUT THE FEELINGS OF DESPARATION, LONELINESS, AND DENIAL. I KNOW ABOUT PHYSICAL, VERBAL AND EMOTIONAL ABUSE. NOW THAT I AM AN ADULT, I HAVE ISSUES WITH TRUST, COMMITMENT AND EXPERIENCING JOY. THIS BOOK AND OTHER AL-ANON LITERATURE HAS BEEN A LIFE SAVER FOR ME. THE INSPIRATIONAL PASSAGES HELPS ME THINK ABOUT MY LIFE IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE ALCOHOLISM IN THE FAMILY. IT HELPS ME SEE HOPE AND LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ALL ADULT CHILDREN, SPOUSES, AND/OR FRIENDS OF AN ALCOHOLIC. IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS.
