I used this book as supplementary material for review during a graduate course in marine hydrodynamics. I liked that it was compact and cheaper. But it's not really comprehensive enough for an introductory class.

Terrible Fluids Book

This book was used in my fluids class and was no help at all. The explanations are unclear and confusing, and there are very few examples. This book does not make a good class text or reference text. Do not buy this book. If you are an undergrad then buy Fluid Mechanics by Young et al. or Crowe et al., or if you want more buy Viscous Fluid Flow by White.

I bought a paperback version of this textbook a few years ago. There were many printing and typo errors (the top few lines on many pages were lost),and the quality of explanations in the textbook is disappointing for a group of authors from a supposedly distinguished university. Wanted to sell the book to recoup my loss but there was no market for it. Doesn't that speak volumes about this book?

I would not recommend this book for any introductory fluid mechanics course because there are a lot of derivation steps as well as background information assumed by the author. This is more of a mathematical approach to fluid mechanics as opposed to the more classical engineering approach.

Product Description
For freshman- to senior-level design courses in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering. Hyman's comprehensive, clearly written and organized, and thorough treatment of engineering design fundamentals incorporates much of the material covered in contemporary "mini" design books, which are almost exclusively devoted to design methodology. Engineering Design, however, also includes topics such as engineering economics, project planning, professional and social context of design, and optimization. New concepts are often introduced by posing a design problem, thus emphasizing a more applied approach to the course.

The photos are beautiful, but I was disappointed in the narrow range of styles present in the book. Most of the pictures are of asian style with a little South American and India style thrown in. As far as I could tell, there were no pictures of tribal/african style, or other less-well represented styles in mainstream decorating books.I gave the book as many stars as I did for the photos and for the authors at least trying to publish a more diversified book on style. I would have liked to give it more stars, but I was too disappointed in it.

This book is a really exciting read for people looking for elegant ways to display all the fabulous souvenirs they picked up on their world travels. At the very least, it really opens up your mind to new possibilities of decorating beyond the Pottery Barn/Crate & Barrel aesthetic...

This book is fun to own. Lots of good ideas that can be realistically applied. The pictures are beautiful and the writing truly energizes and inspires one to look with new eyes at the way space is used not only in ones own home, but also in public buildings and spaces which one occupies as daily life is lived. I refer to this book often, and would recommend it to anyone interested in beautifying and simplifying their environment.

This book has wonderful design ideas if you are working with an architect designing a new home, if you are or remodeling an old one. If you already have a home and want to incorporate her ideas, it might be a little difficult. It is a very educational book with beautiful photos, however, I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't planning on doing any major renovation or construction.

Even though the expected date of arrival was 5 or 6 weeks ahead, it was shipped less than one week after the request and it arrived to Europe (from US) next week. So the total waiting time was 2 weeks instead of the 5 or 6 weeks it anticipated. I'm happy with he conditions the book arrived, so it was my first purchase in Amazon and I am definetely satisfied.

This book in conjunction with Anderson's "Modern Compressible Flow with Historical Perspective" will give you and excellent fundamental background in high temp gas dynamics. I think the third section alone of this book (which introduces stastical mechanics, kinetic theory, chemically reacting flows, equilibrium and nonequilibrium flows) is worth the price.
