Excellent book

This book "Mere Christianity" By C.S. Lewis should be read by both Christians and non-Christians alike. Any book that brings you closer to Jesus is a beautiful thing and this book will do just that. I hope atheists and agnostics will read Lewis and question their way of thinking.
I see from reading the reviews on this site some people have recommend my book, "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," and again I just want them to know how much I appreciate their recommendation, especially at such a excellent site. I wrote this book out of love and for the glory of God and Jesus, not for my own fame or fortune. I welcome people to read my book, I'm sure you'll find this non-fiction account of a loving God just as positive and inspiring

Excellent. This book, after the Bible, should be utilized as an incredible evangelistic tool. In my opinion Mere Christianity should be a prerequisite for those studying Theology...especially for Christians.

The seller said this book was new and when I got the book it was obviously used with many creases in the pages and even on the cover. It was a great book though. Lovely read. I would recommend this book to anyone willing to read it.

A monolith of Christian literature

The breadth and scope of this book are truly staggering. Lewis, a former atheist, tackles virtually every major issue one could think of pertaining to Christianity (his starting point is actually philosophy and natural law) with precision and clarity. His style is very readable and replete with profound imagery that adds layers of meaning to his writing (I will grant that some of these illustrations are a bit dated, but the brilliance is still there). Lewis writes with honesty, humility and simplicity. This book is teeming with information, and an intial reading will only begin the process of gleaning the treasures this volume contains. It is a book I have found myself returning to again and again to re-read sections or parts I have highlighted. I would go so far as to contend that virtually anyone who reads this book will be challenged or transformed by some portion of it, regardless of their beliefs. It is truly that remarkable. Highly recommended.

I like reading books on apologetics. It's one of my favorite subjects. I also really dislike buying a book and getting halfway through it and realizing it has nothing to offer me. To avoid this, I always get online and read book reviews. I also find top 10 lists very helpful. I will google something like "top 10 Christian books" or "top 10 books evangelism." After doing this for a while, I noticed something curious. "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis is almost always near the top of any top 10 list. And it's usually number 1. I avoided reading this book of a while. I thought, "Well I know C.S. Lewis is a great writer. He wrote the Narnia series. But it's just so old, it's probably dry, high theology." Finally, I broke down and bought it, drudgingly. As soon as I began reading it though, I was immediately mad at myself for not reading it sooner. It is by far the best book on Christianity besides the bible itself. Lewis is so humble in his writing, but is clearly one of the most brilliant minds ever. You will find yourself following a line of thought and then suddenly he'll end it with something absolutely profound. He does it over and over again throughout the whole book. This book will bring you closer to Christ whether you're a beliver or not. If you're a Christian it will challenge you and help you to grow stronger in your faith. If you're an athiest or agnostic it will blindside you and cause you to question your logic.
Just go ahead and read it. I've read it three times in a row.

My favorite book

This book helped me understand God and the meaning of holiness. I suppose I had my own definition for the word holy before. My old definition would simply be sacred. Little did I know there was so much beauty in the definition of holiness. It was like stepping through a doorway into a beautiful unexplored land for me.
RC was able to use various bible passages to teach me about God's holiness. He tackled some tough scripture and gave me understanding. Certain parts of the bible which I may have skimmed over are now like beautiful paintings in a museum I had never noticed.
This is my favorite book because I believe I know God better after reading it.
It has always been hard for me to keep a personal copy. I always give them to friends hoping that they will know God better.

Nice meditation on God's Holiness

Sproul does a nice job of defining the Holiness of God and our response. It comes across as a meditation. He quotes Calvin, Edwards, Luther and others. The doctrine is definitely reformed, which makes sense since Sproul is one of the most outspoken proponents of the doctrines of grace. The early chapters are especially good. I am a bit at a lost on the signficance of the latter chapters. In the early chapters, Sproul works on defining holiness, its relationship with God's other attributes, and our response. I thought his chapters on justifying God's just acts in the Old Testament were a little light and little dismissive. Although I agree when we put God's infinite holiness and his absolute sovereignty over us, the injustice seems inconsequential. I didn't fully understand the significance of the last chapter on "Holy Space and Holy Time."
Sproul has a tendency to grow on me after repeated readings, and this one is definitely worth rereading. There are not many books out there that goes into the attributes of God this deeply and are so easy to read. Maybe I'm reading too much Edwards, so I am a little disappointed at its depth. However, this book is very good for the audience it is trying to reach: the serious layman who wants a deeper understanding of God.

I received this as a gift and am so grateful for this book. It is not a book to be rapidly read but rather it is to be sipped on and to ponder. It is excellent and i loved it and HIGHLY recommend it.

At first I was a little disappointed in the audio-book since it was another speaker other than R.C. Sproul. However, after the first ten minutes I could hear the speaker, as if it were Sproul himself (since, of course, he is the author).
The book is EXCELLENT! It has a way of bringing you to a place of "awe" concerning God's holiness. It helped me to understand holiness and to desire God to bring forth holiness into my own life.
R.C. Sproul is one of my favorite Theology teachers, and this audio-book shows how God has gifted him to teach the truths of God's word clearly and effectively. ENJOY :)

This book presents a thorough and logical defense of what its author calls divine determinism - the belief that every aspect of everything that exists and of everything that occurs has been willed and determined by God - that no aspect of anything that occurs is outside the scope of God's control. Written from the perspective that the Bible teaches the truth about God's relationship to his creation, it begins by asking what the Bible teaches with respect to the scope of God's determinative control of reality. It argues that such a question cannot be answered by means of biblical proof-texts, but can only be answered by discovering the logical implications of certain foundational biblical teachings about God. It concludes that these foundational teachings about God rationally require divine determinism. The study ends by exploring, in depth, various thorny intellectual objections that are naturally and unavoidably raised against the doctrine of divine determinism and defends the doctrine against the more important of those objections. In the course of this study, Jack Crabtree resolves the important philosophical issues that have to be resolved if divine determinism is to have any intellectual viability. He contends: 1) that divine determinism is compatible with free will and human responsibility, 2) that divine determinism is compatible with the goodness of God, 3) that divine determinism does not preclude moral striving and human effort to live righteously, 4) that divine determinism is not-and does not lead to-fatalism, and 5) that divine determinism does not require an abandonment of one's commonsensical perspective on everyday reality. Dr. Crabtree's approach is fresh and innovative. While undoubtedly controversial, this study makes a very important, original, ground-breaking contribution to an age-old debate. Whether the reader ultimately agrees or disagrees with its conclusions, the arguments outlined in this important study cannot justly be ignored. No thoughtful person who seeks to resolve the dilemma of divine sovereignty and human responsibility can afford to remain unacquainted with the perspective defended in this book.
