This book "Mere Christianity" By C.S. Lewis should be read by both Christians and non-Christians alike. Any book that brings you closer to Jesus is a beautiful thing and this book will do just that. I hope atheists and agnostics will read Lewis and question their way of thinking.
I see from reading the reviews on this site some people have recommend my book, "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," and again I just want them to know how much I appreciate their recommendation, especially at such a excellent site. I wrote this book out of love and for the glory of God and Jesus, not for my own fame or fortune. I welcome people to read my book, I'm sure you'll find this non-fiction account of a loving God just as positive and inspiring

Excellent. This book, after the Bible, should be utilized as an incredible evangelistic tool. In my opinion Mere Christianity should be a prerequisite for those studying Theology...especially for Christians.

The seller said this book was new and when I got the book it was obviously used with many creases in the pages and even on the cover. It was a great book though. Lovely read. I would recommend this book to anyone willing to read it.

A monolith of Christian literature
Rating (5)
Date: 2008-12-11

The breadth and scope of this book are truly staggering. Lewis, a former atheist, tackles virtually every major issue one could think of pertaining to Christianity (his starting point is actually philosophy and natural law) with precision and clarity. His style is very readable and replete with profound imagery that adds layers of meaning to his writing (I will grant that some of these illustrations are a bit dated, but the brilliance is still there). Lewis writes with honesty, humility and simplicity. This book is teeming with information, and an intial reading will only begin the process of gleaning the treasures this volume contains. It is a book I have found myself returning to again and again to re-read sections or parts I have highlighted. I would go so far as to contend that virtually anyone who reads this book will be challenged or transformed by some portion of it, regardless of their beliefs. It is truly that remarkable. Highly recommended.

You better read this book.

I like reading books on apologetics. It's one of my favorite subjects. I also really dislike buying a book and getting halfway through it and realizing it has nothing to offer me. To avoid this, I always get online and read book reviews. I also find top 10 lists very helpful. I will google something like "top 10 Christian books" or "top 10 books evangelism." After doing this for a while, I noticed something curious. "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis is almost always near the top of any top 10 list. And it's usually number 1. I avoided reading this book of a while. I thought, "Well I know C.S. Lewis is a great writer. He wrote the Narnia series. But it's just so old, it's probably dry, high theology." Finally, I broke down and bought it, drudgingly. As soon as I began reading it though, I was immediately mad at myself for not reading it sooner. It is by far the best book on Christianity besides the bible itself. Lewis is so humble in his writing, but is clearly one of the most brilliant minds ever. You will find yourself following a line of thought and then suddenly he'll end it with something absolutely profound. He does it over and over again throughout the whole book. This book will bring you closer to Christ whether you're a beliver or not. If you're a Christian it will challenge you and help you to grow stronger in your faith. If you're an athiest or agnostic it will blindside you and cause you to question your logic.

Just go ahead and read it. I've read it three times in a row.

Product Description
At some time or another, nearly everyone needs a miracle. Failing health, financial difficulties, deteriorating relationships all are problems that make people cry out for divine intervention. But while Scripture offers numerous examples of God performing miracles for ancient generations from Moses and the burning bush to the loaves and fishes that fed 5,000 does He still do it in the 21st century? Author Calvin Miller investigates, delving into the Scriptures and drawing on modern testimonials to find the answer. He examines the Bible's most famous miracles from the Virgin Birth to the Resurrection of Christ, analyzes the discrepancy between science and miracle, and explores such perplexing questions as why God chooses to intervene on some occasions but not on others. By illuminating God's patterns, Miller reaches a conclusion that offers a tremendous source of faith and inspiration: Yes, God breaks His natural laws to bless mankind with His mercy, compassion, and love.

What brought me to this Book, One Month to Live. We had it as our sermons in Church and, found it very enlighting. It hit me pretty much at home as, have a family member that has just about the title of the book to live. Do I give it to him? I think not. What with being 49 years old, chemo sickness etc., I think not. He is reading the Bible but, afraid to die? Lots to think about here.

Could be Life-Changing....

The Shooks have penned a compelling thirty-day study aid that is as rich as the Purpose Driven Life and should appeal to the same crowd. I have noticed, though, that what you read doesn't change your life unless you invest yourself in it. If you purchase One Month to Live and do nothing but read it, don't expect any major results. Just like we can read the Bible, sit through and amazing sermon, sing our hearts out during worship and leave unscathed, so can you read this book and not see a difference.

One Month to Live could be a tool that changes you from the inside out.

I was given this book by our youth pastor and it's probably the BEST book I've ever gotten. The authors write in such a down to earth, every day way of life it makes the simplest ideas profound. Wished I had this book in my 20's not 50's.
This book is readable to anyone at any point in their Christian walk with God.

Book Review: One Month To Live by Kerry and Chris Shook

If you had one month to live, would you spend your time differently? One year ago this month, I arrived to the emergency room of our local hospital. My father had been there for 12 hours, trying to find a diagnosis for the pain in his side and yellowing skin. A team of doctors gave him their final statement--pancreatic cancer, less than a year to live. Of course we left in tears, but how we spent the next few months was not easy either.

Kerry and Chris Shook, authors of One Month To Live: Thirty Days To a No Regrets Life, have written a book which raises awareness of this issue. Some of us know when we'll die, but most of us don't. In their profession as pastor and wife, they've witnessed grief and sadness while residing over many funerals. Believing that people need to live as if their time is limited--which it is--Chris first implemented his idea of living awareness at a retreat. There he had staff fill out a daily journal about how they would live differently if they only had one month to live.

My father and mother awkwardly met with my sister, myself, and our spouses for lunch at a restaurant the following day. None of us knew what to say. I could hardly look at my dad with his piercing blue eyes. Mom and Dad began to travel--to visit my brother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, old friends. Dad saw just about everyone, in his own way, saying goodbye. People were important to my father. He'd also really wanted his entire life to see the Grand Canyon, but never did.

"Mortality," the Shooks write, "is the great equalizer." We will eventually all leave this earth. The purpose of One Month To Live is to give the reader "a greater clarity of purpose, and a renewed passion for things that really matter." The book is divided into four sections or weeks which include Make It Count Moments--questions for the reader which will help him examine his life and target what's most important, and Make It Last For Life--ideas on how to utilize each day's focus.

Section One: Live Passionately--Are you putting things off? Thinking you'll get to it in the future? The time is now.

Section Two: Love Completely--People are made to be social and emotional beings. Have sincere relationships with family, your spouse, and your children.

Section Three: Learn Humbly--Your money and looks will not bring contentment. Change needs to begin within. Drop that grudge!

Section Four: Leave Boldly--Leave a lasting legacy. "Our relationships are the only investment that can't be destroyed by a fire or natural disaster or be lost in the stock market."--The Shooks

During my dad's final months, he purchased a convertible red Mustang with a black pull-down roof. He drove it once. He also buried the hatch with all grudges against various individuals he'd been carrying around for a lifetime. Of everything that occurred, that was the most welcoming change. Dad loved people and they loved him back. Do yourself a favor, bury the hatchet, at least for yourself, now and live as if each day was your last. Appreciate the small moments that count.

LEAVE BOLDLY: "After they die, it will wash away like sandcastle at high tide." One month to live is divided into four compartments of no-regrets: Live Passionately, Love Completely, Learn Humbly, and Leave Boldly! Every chapter is forwarded with wise inscriptions such as Ralph Waldo Emerson- "The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn." Kerry and Chris Shook reminds us that 80% of all communication is non-verbal in a text message & computer age. We "must adjust with change or your ship will be crushed." Surrender to God's power. Pain is inherent. Metamorphasis (of a butterfly), the struggle, is needed in order to soar. A simple fast read with applicable heart rendering pieces to remember. I'm off soaring.....

"Timely relevant devotional thoughts", so says Cyril Barber in The Minister's Library of this exposition of Jesus's Prayer in John 17. Marcus Rainsford (1820-1897) was born in Ireland and pastored for many years there and later at St. John's Church in Belgrave Square in London. Rainsford writes with much passion and emotion, and it is an easy read for a book written from this era. He does a fantastic job of consistently drawing the believer's attention to their security in Christ, and God The Father's love for the Son and His Church as one. The book contains a short biography of Rainsford and also an interview of Rainsford by D.L Moody during one of his evangelistic campaigns in London. A true classic read it and be blessed.
