Amazon.com Review
For almost 20 years Jerry and Esther Hicks have been presenting workshops, producing tapes and writing books to help people create the life they desire. And desire is no small word in this agenda. According to the teachings of "Abraham"--a collective name for the spiritual entities that are channeled through Esther--desire is a good and natural force within us. In fact, we are all here to fulfill our desires, according to Abraham. Yet the reason so much of us feel frustrated, is that we have difficulty knowing how to ask and receive whatever we want to be, do or have. Although Jerry and Esther are listed as the authors, Ask and It Is Given is actually a collection of channeled messages from Abraham. Fans of Abraham and the Hicks may not find new information, but will probably be delighted to have an inspiring, updated book that speaks to the familiar conversation of attracting the life we want. Newcomers may also be intrigued by this excellent, in-depth discussion on how to change one’s life by matching the vibrational energy of one’s desires--taking the power of positive thinking to a whole new level. Because this material is channeled, it often reads like The Power of Now or A Course in Miracles--not a fast food book to be devoured in one sitting. Rather, this is a book to be read in passages, with a soothing gestation period in between. It includes much advice on working with energy and emotions as well as specific chapters on increasing prosperity, reclaiming health, working with meditation, and clearing clutter for clarity. For those who are onboard with the "Laws of Attraction" and the "Art of Receiving" that Abraham speaks of, this could be one of those deliciously mysterious books that you can open to any page and it seems to offer the exact advice or insight you need right now.--Gail Hudson

Ask and It Is Given - Learning to Manifest Your Desires
Rating (5)
Date: 2009-01-06
Ask and It Is Given is a must read from Ester & Jerry Hicks (The Teachings of Abraham.) It's an accompanying book to The Law of Attraction - The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham also by the authors through Abraham. The empowering parts of Ask and It Is Given are to be found in Part II of the book which are the processes. Definitely a well thought out and well communicated book for those interested in new thought understandings.

The ABCs of the Creation Process

"Ask and It Is Given" goes far beyond "The Secret". Esther and Jerry Hicks shares with us the ins and outs of the Law of Attraction, describing in great detail how we work with our emotions to create the lives we desire. Simply put, reading this book felt like God's User's Manual.
I learned so much about the nature of reality from reading this book (and listening to CDs provided on their web site). My entire life has changed as a result of learning the teachings of Abraham, and I used specific techniques from "Ask and It Is Given" when I wrote my book, "Opening the Kimono". My book took me nine months to write, and I won a literary award and got an international distributor within three months of its launch. I directly attribute its success to the teachings of Abraham and the Hicks.
If you want to create great things, read this book and employ its techniques.

I give this book to everyone. The principle of the law of attraction have changed my life to a degree too great for words. It's like I always knew, but needed to be reminded. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, once you "get it" it will change your life too.

this is a long overdue review. ask & it is given is by far one of the most clear cut explanations to HOW our life experiences come to pass that i have ever come across. it explains EVERYTHING and excludes nothing. i really recommend HIGHLY the contents of this profound leading-edge to anyone even remotely curious about the Law of Attraction and how you create your reality.
it uses a language you understand. it uses up to date concepts to illustrate to you just exactly how it is that you create your experiences.
'cause you do create your reality. might as well learn how you've been doing it!

Product Description
In Crossing Over—the book—John brings his readers with him on the extraordinary journey that has been his life since his New York Times bestseller One Last Time was published in 1998. In the style of his TV show and personal appearances—poignant, funny, and remarkably candid—John deals head-on with the controversial issues he has confronted on his voyage as a psychic medium. Readers might be surprised to learn that it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. On the way to becoming an internationally celebrated medium, John has had to learn his own lessons about the meaning of his work and about the motivations of some of the people he has met on his path. The book also tells the powerful stories of the people John has encountered and the spirits that have accompanied them: The songwriter from Tennessee whose famous father comes through, setting off an extraordinary chain of events leading to an amazing discovery in a memorabilia store in Dallas. The science teacher who leaves her dying grandfather in a nursing home to come to a group reading with John—and finds her grandfather coming through half an hour later, saying he wanted her to leave his bedside so she could report back to the family that he had crossed over safely. The young woman working on a project with John whose murdered boyfriend interrupts a taping session to tell her that it’s all right for her to move on. And John’s own quest to hear from another medium the words he’s waited a decade for: the signs he and his mother agreed she would give him from the Other Side to tell him she was okay. Through these stories and many others, John brings peace and insight to those who grieve for their loved ones. Readers of this book will be captivated by the wit, warmth, and passion that John brings to his work, and by the stories behind the stories that have riveted millions of viewers of his landmark program. *Tradepaper edition will include an added chapter on September 11th.

Amazon.com Review
Crossing Over reads like a casual conversation with an old childhood pal instead of like a memoir of a world-renowned psychic who has his own talk show on the Sci Fi channel. John Edward's narrative is down-to-earth and filled with vernacular expressions (including plenty of instances of "holy shit!"). There's the story of how his deceased mother finally gave him the three signs he hoped for after she died, and how he once contacted the recently departed songwriter Carl Perkins. Most of the time, Edward speaks about how the process of consulting with a psychic brings peace and reconciliation to those left behind--standard fare for medium memoirs. As compelling as Edward's stories are, what makes this memoir unique is how readily Edward exposes his own vanities and ego bruisings. He also delves into the behind-the-scenes reality of being a television medium. For instance, he reveals how his producers wanted to have dead-people "theme shows"--for instance inviting grieving members of Mother Against Drunk Driving to be the audience. This kind of "gallery rigging" goes against Edward's desire to enter readings without any prior knowledge of the person seated before him. Edward offers an amusing, and at times disturbing, look at how the ethereal world clashes with the celebrity world. --Gail Hudson

As a medium and author of The Spoken Words of Spirit: Lessons From The Other Side, perusing through John's book was a good experience. Many of the words in his work are very validating for those who may be skeptical of life on the other side. This book makes communication seem real and easy for those who understand it. I hope John continues his great work and shares more of his insights again.

I have found this book to be very good. I lost my son suddenly a year ago, and I am desperate to reconnect to him. My only wish now is to have a reading by Mr. Edwards to hopefully be able to deal with this awful nightmare.

I see a middle-aged, bitter misogynist who doesn't know who he is anymore. I see someone that doesn't even have a college education and can hardly string two cohesive sentences together, let alone write an entire book. I see a person who is terribly insecure that tries to hide behind a facade of extreme arrogance. I see someone that has made a career out of perfecting cold reading to an art-form. I see someone who is so full of himself that there are times when he actually believes his very own lies. I see someone who wants desperately to be popular and is so hungry for fame and attention and the all-mighty dollar. I see someone who is in total denial of everything that defines him. I see a man that is incapable of loving anyone because he doesn't have any love for himself. I see someone that is incredibly envious of Sylvia Browne because she has an even bigger racket than him. I also see a man that, unlike Sylvia Browne, does not have a heart of stone and deep down has some shame for what he has done...

Product Description
Knowing is scary when you don’t know how you got the information. Ruth Berger was afraid of ghosts. For many years, she refused to acknowledge their presence — resisted their presence — even though she had long known of her psychic abilities and made her living as a standup psychic and medical intuitive. When ghosts started to interrupt her shows to give her messages, Ruth finally realized that it was time for her to acknowledge them. She discovered she could use her rare ability to speak to the loved ones of those who had passed on. Berger tells us there are two main reasons why ghosts contact the living. The living need them. Or the dead need the living to do something. Berger shares actual stories of her conversations with ghosts and how she used those episodes to help the living and the dead. Meet Ellen, a hospitalized 11-year-old whose dead grandfather comforted her after she was abused. And Mary, whose husband contacted Ruth from the grave to prevent their daughter’s suicide. With her no-nonsense style, down-to-earth stories, and helpful hints, Berger demonstrates how almost anyone can learn to listen to the voices that might be trying to reach them from beyond. Each chapter provides steps to "see what I see" to develop channeling abilities. They Don’t See What I See also includes tips to prepare for channeling and methods to use while channeling to avoid contacting evil spirits.

A Fast, Informative Read
Rating (5)
Date: 2007-06-04
I enjoyed They Don't See What I See very much. It's informative and practically a one-sitting read. Ruth comes across as personable, intelligent, and thoughtful. As a person who has struggled with some of the same issues, particularly fearing my own psychic abilities, I found Ruth's story compelling.

disapointment

As an avid reader of spiritualistic information, this book did not score big with me. It did not include any validation (except one instance on page 109)except you taking her word as fact. It was written more in a conversational way expecting the reader to accept the plain as the nose on your face that she has abilities that include appearances from Jesus and Mary. Lacking any validation or evidential information throughout the book casts doubt on her ability whether she actually has the ability or not. I am a postive optimistic regarding afterlife, but if this book was my only source in the possibility of life after death, I would be utterly disapointed.

THIS BOOK IS PROBABLY THE MOST MOVING, INSIGHTFUL, INFORMATIVE AND EMOTIONAL THAT I HAVE EVER READ ON MEDIUMSHIP AND SPIRITUALITY. I AM A RELATIVE NOVICE IN THIS ARENA AND FOUND IT TO BE SO EASY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND, ADDRESSING SO MANY TOPICS ABOUT WHICH I AM CURIOUS. IT ENCOURAGES YOU TO LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF AND AROUND YOU IN THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS ABOUT LIFE, BOTH HERE AND AFTER. I WAS VERY MOVED EMOTIONALLY BY BOTH RUTH'S OWN EXPERIENCES AND HOW SHE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HELP SO MANY OTHERS. THANK YOU RUTH FOR SHARING YOURSELF WITH EVERYONE PRIVILIGED ENOUGH TO READ YOUR BOOK.

A realistic treatment of mediumship

I was awed by this book because Ruth Berger started out with fear, not zeal. She became, in so many words, the accidental medium. Several books I've read by more famous authors have not revealed so much information. Her attitude appears to be one of helpfulness to her sitters and to new learners (like me).I took five pages of typed notes, ranging from technical instructions for mediumship to great empathy with departed souls who apparently are lost and instructions for them, as well. In this book, the usual bragging was not apparent to me. Sincerity and energetic enthusiasm for her work resonated throughout.
