Product Description
The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2,000,000 copy bestselling inspirational book, The Power of Now With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived "in the now." In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence. The Power of Now was a question-and-answer handbook. A New Earth has been written as a traditional narrative, offering anecdotes and philosophies in a way that is accessible to all. Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of life—and for building a better world. About the Author ECKHART TOLLE is a contemporary spiritual teacher who is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition. In his writing and seminars, he conveys a simple yet profound message with the timeless and uncomplicated clarity of the ancient spiritual masters: There is a way out of suffering and into peace. Eckhart travels extensively, taking his teachings throughout the world.

A New Earth
Rating (5)
Date: 2008-11-22
This life-changing book describes how we must live in order to stop the downward trend that mankind seems to be facing. The ego, that which currently rules mankind and is based primarily on materialism and self-interest, must die if we are to survive. Beautifully written, Tolle describes the urgent necessity of this change and how to go about it. He gives meaning to life and describes the only way to find true peace, contentment, and happiness.

Transformational
Rating (5)
Date: 2008-11-21
This moving and transformational books offers real-life, concrete solutions to managing the stress of modern living. Where traditional therapy ends (understanding the "why" behind our misery) Mr. Tolle's book and mindfulness begin, by teaching the "how". How to find meaning in the present moment. How to stop looking for happiness in external things. How to learn to appreciate the true self and live a life of intention and kindness. Mr. Tolle gives the reader a wonderful introduction to Buddhist and mindfulness principals, and he also shows how all the major religions are more alike than they are different. His book is an inclusive, welcoming, and loving invitation to change the lens through which you see yourself and life. Highly recommended.

Tolle, supposedly a humble person, considers himself enlightened enough to tell everyone else how to be enlightened. He even says that if the Buddha didn't agree with him, Buddha would be wrong.
There is no evidence in the book that Tolle is enlightened at all. I studied and learned all this stuff back in the late 70s and the 80s; Tolle is merely throwing up a mish-mash of Buddhist-New Age thinking that he swallowed years ago.
It's sad that people think this spiritual wisdom when, in fact, it's full of inherent contradictions and self-refuting statements.
Tolle makes an amazing statement when he says that "at the heart of the new consciousness lies the transcendence of thought, the newfound ability of rising above thought" and we will no longer "derive [your] identity" from the "incessant stream of thinking."
And yet, what is this but a thought?! What is this whole book, but words and thinking? He also downgrades words to mere sounds, but of course, his book is in words!
Go figure!
Tolle needs to go back to the drawing board and get basic logic right before he claims to be enlightened.

Product Description
Macabre and fascinating, Ghosts Among Us offers true-life, haunting accounts of eerie visitations and paranormal experiences along with artistically shot black-and-white photographs of haunted sites. The personal, firsthand reports and chilling, full-length stories are bolstered by sidebars of actual accounts of "Ghosts in the News." Each chapter explores mysterious events-events that the reader will find hard to pass off as mere coincidence. In her quest to uncover explanations for each incident, Leslie Rule extensively researched library archives and interviewed credible witnesses, historians, renowned psychics, and parapsychologists. Throughout Ghosts Among Us, Rule's findings are mesmerizing. She writes about being raised in a haunted house. "To top that," Rule explains, "[my mother] introduced me to a serial killer when I was fourteen." The reader is invited to skip ahead to learn about that chilling episode . . . but the pages prior to that offer their own gripping, spell-binding encounters.

Great Ghosts!
Rating (5)
Date: 2008-09-22
As a 1st time Leslie Rule reader, I was very impressed with the writing style. I found it told the stories without too many unnecessary words but also contained a thread of writing you would find in a first rate novel. The marriage of the two made for a great read. The B&W photos always help a book of this nature and found this to be especially true with this book. Particularly because the author took many of the photographs. This adds to the `reality' of the reporting. I also appreciate the forthrightness of the author's claim to be a true believer. Many of these types of books often obscure the authors belief so one is never sure if they are a skeptic or believer. This author lays it on the line and I appreciate that.
My favorite chapters were the Ghostly Letters and Haunted Hotels. I am a fan of haunted hotels and always greatly enjoy reading more about them; especially the ones I have never heard about. In addition, Leslie was kind enough to provide the physical address and telephone numbers. Now where did I put that Visa card?
The story that has stuck with me the longest was the one about the haunted clown doll. It is a very unusual story along with an actual photograph of the little creep. All in all, a fantastic little book on ghosts.

Having grown up in a haunted house, I'm a little picky when it comes to other peoples' ghost stories, so maybe I'm harder to please, but this book just did not have enough hard evidence to satisfy me. There are too many instances of "some say..." and "legend has it...," and while these little asides can be entertaining, I'm much more interested in real eye-witness accounts.
While I loved stories like the children on the carousel as well as some of the letters from real people, there were just not enough of these first-hand accounts to create any substantial goose bumps. There was too much unconvincing speculation that seemed to be reaching for credibility in stories that were just too vague, and simply lacked the in-depth detail to be considered serious documentation.
I did enjoy the historical info and was pleased with Ms. Rule's ability to round up eye-witnesses who were not only willing to share their real names, but were also willing to be photographed. However, there were too many unsatisfying half-page blurps which relied heavily on hearsay, and I thought the theory of the carousel as an energy vortex was just too over the top.
Overall, this was entertaining, but not one of the best collections I have come across. Perhaps it should have been called "Ghosts and Legends Among Us." If you are looking for a book full of ALL first-hand accounts that will really send chills down your spine, try "Nantucket Ghosts" by Blue Balliett.

I bought this book several years ago and never finished reading it. I'm not even sure where it is now. The time and effort put into ploting and learning the principles is better spent on living one's life. If you want to predict the outcome of events in your life--listen to that little voice inside your head--it's more accurate.

I love this book so much that I'm writing my first amazon review. Curley changed my life, I liked astrology before I read 'Predicting', but since I read his book I've understood and been able to use it so much better. right after reading it I started charting out with graphs my jupitar and saturn angles and was surprised to see how they coincided with major events in my life. My astrology friend doesn't get it like me but that's probably because he moved from the east coast to the west when he was 3, which brings in to play locational astrology, but that's another story. 'Predicting' works, find out when you'll fall in love, if there might be problems with the match, competing angles, and etc!!! wow. good luck, Amber

In this book the author tells us how a natal chart reveals a (positive or negative) change in your relationships by interpreting the aspects of the transiting jupiter and saturn to the ruler of the 7th house. This is just a simple and quite amazing rule that nearly always seem to work. The transiting positions of jupiter and saturn to the houserulers seem to forecast a lot more. Read the book and you will now all about it !

...but perhaps not the most accurate source. I'm not a very experienced practitioner in this area (only a little bit throughout the years), but even I noted several mistakes and/or questionable interpretations, for example:
*she says in one place that Robert Johnson himself claimed that he sold his soul to the devil
* she says Scorpio, which is of course a water sign, is most closely aligned with FIRE-- and she doesn't explain the connection, if any, to any African source
* she's concerned about how the word "mojo" is used in a silly movie, but seems to have no idea of any other metaphorical and/or erroneous use of the word, nor does she give much useful information about nomenclature in response to the errors of others
* she has some discordant ingredients in some recipes (her "War Water" is very sweet-- is it for killing with kindness?)
* she ignores the European herbal tradition behind recipes such as Four Thieves Vinegar in favor of implying a deliberate connection to African heritage and deities (a "coincidental" connection to a certain African God or Goddess or an orisha would be a different type of claim...)
* finally, although she insists that rootwork doesn't require fancy expensive ingredients, she's "all the time" listing such in her recipes, and doesn't provide guidance in making substitutions... very annoying.
On the other hand, many of her recipes and ideas are quite usable, and my copy has many pages marked to designate recipes I plan to try. I bought the book because 3 different people interested in folk magic recommended it (perhaps it's relevant that none of them were African-American.) If you'd like to flavor your spiritual practices with some African-American style work, I'd recommend this book. If, like myself, you were looking for something that would give authentic practices without having to constantly struggle with old-fashioned or pedantic language of folklore books-- keep looking. Further steps might be: Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic: A Materia Magica of African-American Conjure and Mules and Men (P.S.), which I have been acquainted with for much longer.

This is not Hoodoo

After reading through Bird's second book, "Four Seasons of Mojo", and seeing how bad that one was I read through this book hoping it might be better; no such luck. This isn't real Hoodoo and any practitioner who is trained in the tradition would either be highly annoyed, or laugh themselves silly, by what is being passed off as Hoodoo.
The problems with the book start right at the beginning. Bird gives the reader the ingredients for a "Fast Luck" Mojo without explaining that "Fast Luck" isn't a generic term for luck. It is a term used in Hoodoo to describe a hand made for luck with money or love. I'll also add that the number of ingredients included don't work to strengthen the spell.
On the very next page the author gives the list of curios/ingredients for a "Stay Away From Me" mojo, but includes Senna Pods and Dragonsblood resin. Interesting, if illogical, choices considering the fact that in Hoodoo, Senna Pods and Dragonsblood resin are used to draw people to you! I didn't analyze all of her recipes, but I'm not hopeful that the book gets any better if it starts off this bad. The mistakes I found in the book are the type you might expect a novice student to make, but not those of someone who deems themselves knowledgeable enough to write a book on the topic.
SSRB reminds of Ray Malborough's Hoodoo Mysteries, and is just as full of misinformation and misdirection. If you are looking for real, authentic Hoodoo stick with Hyatt, if you can afford to collect Hyatt's work; Cat Yronwode, Jim Haskins, or even Henri Gamache. I also have a Listmania, "Hoodoo/Rootwork/Conjure and nothing but", which lists other reputable authors, but do yourself a big favor and pass on this one.

"Sticks, Stones, Roots, and Bones" is a fabulous insight into the workings of the magick of Hoodoo. This book guides you through the elements of War, Love, Fertility, and Prosperity as seen by the hoodooist, and offers practical information on making your own mojo's and washes.
Hoodoo, not to be confused with Vodou (also spelled Voodoo and Vodoun) is a system of magick that was birthed out of folk magick practices, especially from those of the slaves brought from Africa, but became a collection of various folk magick practices and rootwork.
I recommend this book for anyone who wishes to look into African American spirituality, Santeria, or Vodou. Just remember that she (the author) is only one opinion, and that there are various other books out there as well.

I loved this book its a beginners book on Hoodoo. I especially loved the part on Hoodoo child, it offered wonderful rituals for the pregnant woman while I am an advanced Hoodoo root worker, this book is a wonderful book to pass on to my 3 daughters. being a life long root worker and one who is a current student of Cat Yronwode. I found this book to be a wonderful addition to the Hoodoo experience. some people have complained the book was fluff, quite frankly if they read the book without prejudice they would certainly find things that work. now there are books with more in depth information like Robert Laremy and Cathrine Yronwode for the more advanced root worker. and 5000 spells by Judika Illes the mother of all spell books. to try to dismiss Stephanie book as fluff indicates prejudice by those who seek instant magic. if they knew anything about "real" magic its a tool to enhance and make the living experience that much more richer. this type of magic by Stephanie invite the reader to tap into their inner Hoodoo spirit and to enjoy the experience of intimate Hoodoo working. I know my daughter will enjoy this book as much as I have, it will surly spark their curiosity and creativity on a long held cultural tradition of Hoodoo practiced by our ancient ancestors and their descendants today. this book invites you to tap into latent cultural traditions.

The caption for my review about sais it all. This is yet another "new age" fluff bunny attempt at sterilizing a tried and true folk practice into some modern hip thing for anyone to go to Barnes and Noble to pick up. If you are looking for an authentic guide to african american conjure, I reccomend Mules and Men by Zora Nele Hurston and Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic by Cat Yronwode. If you want to still use this book too I suppose it would make a good substitute for toilet paper or perhaps kindling.

What would you do if you were sitting quietly in your living room when two mysterious strangers appeared from out of nowhere-and then told you they were 'ascended masters' who had come to reveal some shocking secrets of existence and teach you the miraculous powers of advanced forgiveness? Would you call the cops? Call a psychiatrist? Call out for pizza? When two such teachers appeared before Gary Renard in 1992, he chose to listen to them (and ask a lot of questions). The result is this startling book: an extraordinary record of 17 mind bending conversations that took place over nearly a decade, reorienting the author's life and giving the world an uncompromising introduction to a spiritual teaching destined to change human history.

If you were to start reading A Course In Miracles without some sort of introduction, you'd probably give up soon. I know I would have even though I've studied Buddhism and metaphysics for a number of years. Disappearance really starts you out on the ground floor by gently introducing you to the concepts that are, at first, difficult to comprehend. Our egos will fight tooth and nail to keep us off the right track. A Course In Miracles is the best thought system that I have found to circumvent the ego and this is no easy matter. It does this in the same way as a Zen master. Throw heavy bricks at the ego until it crumbles and fades away allowing the true light to penetrate. We don't have to learn anything new to find the truth. We simply have to unlearn the old stuff. ACIM helps us to to that and Disappearance is an excellent introduction. I'll start on my second reading of Disappearance as soon as I've completed my first reading of Gary's second book "Your Immortal Reality".

Who is there to forgive? As someone has stated, "understanding is all", so it is key to have the correct paradigm in place and this book is understandably, commercially and comfortably way off the mark. What the author (and everyone misses) is the paradoxical "sword" that Jesus brings and revealed in many Advaita texts that, yes, it is all illusion and what many conveniently ignore is that this includes us. There is no God, God is; God is all there is and we're not (many here insert that we're God and this is another discussion...). Nonetheless the truth that sets "you" free is that "YOU" do not exist and have never existed and have no power to do anything, it is all being done for you. There are no doers anywhere and there have never been as there is only now so how could anyone appear AND from the past when there isn't any past to appear from! I understand this is the mother of all mindbenders but there is a plethora of information on the subject and may I suggest "people" like Tony Parsons and the late Ramana and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj who has stated "Salvation is not of a human, it is from a human..." the book 'I AM THAT' by Nisargadatta is a good start. You might also search non-dualism in google. Keep in mind it all a dream, a convincing, complex and contradictory one at that...

Whether or not you believe two ascended beings teleported into the authors living room or not, this book contains cutting-edge spiritual wisdom. The heart of the material is truth that is at home with New Thought, Gnosticism, Advaita Vedanta and other systems.
My warning to you is that reading this with an open mind will change you. Just toying with the powerful ideas presented here will start to undo your ego.
Lapsed Christians may find the teachings about Jesus refreshing as Paulist dogma is stripped away so that the real lessons of Christ can be highlighted. Fundamentalists will be offended as Jesus is shown as a peer, and not an intermediary standing in the way of God's light,
The book works well in parallel with A Course in Miracles or, I believe, on it's own. Readers who are daunted by the sheer size of ACIM might start with this book as a bridge to it's teaching.

Finally I got the answers to the principle questions: Where do I come from? Who am I? What is my purpose in this lifetime? What is my final goal?
For me this book speaks the purest truth and is also the best introduction to 'A Course In Miracles'.
I am very grateful.

Neo-Buddhist, Krishnas and all these other sort of "eastern" religion types don't really harken to the writings of the "ascended" masters, so to speak.
This individual does what the neo-Pagan community has been wanting to do for years, throw everything out the window. He doesn't even try to talk about the classic masters, he just makes his own up.
Isn't it lovely that these spiritual masters just appear to one nut-job and then bang, poof gone? Yeah... right.. more neo-Pagans trying to highjack reality.

I have read a lot but Gary Renard's book , 'The Disappearance Of The Universe' was one that changed my life and turned me around completely.

Product Description

An excellent introduction to A Course In Miracles

A Silly Book

Perhaps it gives (false) hope to those that lack any imagination or drive. But here's the real secret: work hard, live simply, be frugal and save (invest) your money and follow the Golden Rule. The Secret assumes if you think it, it will happen. Not. Kinda like when Edgar Cayce put books under his pillow at night so he would absorb the contents while he slept... I tried that with math in school. Lots of F's followed.
Follow the Secret. Let us know how your life changes. Meanwhile, I'm going to write a book just like it and make a billion dollars. I'll call it Super Secrets of the Ancient Masters of Atlantis. Look for it. It'll change your life (I promise) and enrich mine nicely. See? Win-Win.

I bought this book a while back but just started reading it...not what I expected. I was debating whether to get this book or "The Last Lecture", and I opted to get this book. I don't understand how this book got such good reviews because it's pretty redundant and is not very insightful, it talks about the laws of attraction and how "like attracts like". I have not finished reading the book, but from what I have read, I'm not a big fan.

Does it really work???

"The Secret" promises a lot of great stuff but does it really deliver?
During this period of economic uncertainty we want hope, we want a better future--more abundance, more prosperity in all areas of life. "The Secret" offers hope and a confidence that you can achieve your dream with intention and focus. That's nice to hear but I found it lacked a clear plan of action.
I wanted some clear, practical and easy to follow steps that applied to my life.
I also found "The Secret" was too narrow in its focus. Self-growth isn't just about getting stuff but it's also about the person you become along the way.
I suggest "The Secret" for an inspiring read and " Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don't " for step-by-step approach. To expand your understanding and wisdom you've got to read "Nexus: A Neo Novel."
I bought all three at a great price! I love when Amazon gives special offers on book I enjoy.

When I first read and saw the secret it really motivated me to truly apply the LOA. I have always known about this law through the Seth materials and various new age writers from the 70s and 80s, but with the high production values it added a different perspective to the whole topic. I know many people criticize this book a lot. But this was never meant to be the end all be all of the LOA , but an introduction to it. I also find it disconcerting that people harshly criticize it for not being "spiritual". The main criticism is that it focuses on material well being above all else. Well, I don't see what the issue is. Why not? I think the concept that material wealth and health as not being spiritual is based on outdated ideas of what is spiritual and what is not. All things are God and anything including excessive spirituality can be detrimental. It's about finding harmony. Through the Secret I was introduced to Joe Vitale and James Arthur Ray, both these authors have been vital to my growth. I think this is a good book to have.

I enjoyed They Don't See What I See very much. It's informative and practically a one-sitting read. Ruth comes across as personable, intelligent, and thoughtful. As a person who has struggled with some of the same issues, particularly fearing my own psychic abilities, I found Ruth's story compelling.

As an avid reader of spiritualistic information, this book did not score big with me. It did not include any validation (except one instance on page 109)except you taking her word as fact. It was written more in a conversational way expecting the reader to accept the plain as the nose on your face that she has abilities that include appearances from Jesus and Mary. Lacking any validation or evidential information throughout the book casts doubt on her ability whether she actually has the ability or not. I am a postive optimistic regarding afterlife, but if this book was my only source in the possibility of life after death, I would be utterly disapointed.

THIS BOOK IS PROBABLY THE MOST MOVING, INSIGHTFUL, INFORMATIVE AND EMOTIONAL THAT I HAVE EVER READ ON MEDIUMSHIP AND SPIRITUALITY. I AM A RELATIVE NOVICE IN THIS ARENA AND FOUND IT TO BE SO EASY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND, ADDRESSING SO MANY TOPICS ABOUT WHICH I AM CURIOUS. IT ENCOURAGES YOU TO LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF AND AROUND YOU IN THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS ABOUT LIFE, BOTH HERE AND AFTER. I WAS VERY MOVED EMOTIONALLY BY BOTH RUTH'S OWN EXPERIENCES AND HOW SHE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HELP SO MANY OTHERS. THANK YOU RUTH FOR SHARING YOURSELF WITH EVERYONE PRIVILIGED ENOUGH TO READ YOUR BOOK.

I was awed by this book because Ruth Berger started out with fear, not zeal. She became, in so many words, the accidental medium. Several books I've read by more famous authors have not revealed so much information. Her attitude appears to be one of helpfulness to her sitters and to new learners (like me).I took five pages of typed notes, ranging from technical instructions for mediumship to great empathy with departed souls who apparently are lost and instructions for them, as well. In this book, the usual bragging was not apparent to me. Sincerity and energetic enthusiasm for her work resonated throughout.
